Jobs & Internships

Alumni LinkedIn Group

Students have found internships locally at high technology and non-for-profit organizations, some affiliated with Purdue, while others have gone further afield to Chicago, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, and Louisville in a variety of businesses and industries. Great internships begin with your career goals and interests in mind, and students are encouraged to work closely with professional writing faculty to determine the best internships to support their career goals and interests.

More information and documents for preparing for internships is available at two websites maintained by Prof. Jenny Bay. Please note the distinction between ENGL488 and ENGL490. Both are accepted for the professional writing internship requirement, but they function differently. Usually available during summer, any student in the College of Liberal Arts can take ENGL490 for credit. Offered annually (usually during the fall semester), ENGL 488 meets weekly as a class and students complete 10 or more hours of onsite work. Generally, students in 488 are professional writing majors while 490 includes students from across the college. Student may earn credit for both if and only if they have two different internships.
